Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin won the Parti Keadilan Youth chief post by a comfortable margin over sole contender Hasmi Hashim.

Shamsul, 32, has served the Youth wing as the acting president after Mohd Ezam Noor quit the post in February.

Contacted by malaysiakini, Shamsul said that his immediate priorities were to close ranks between all the Youth divisions nationwide in preparation for the impending general election.

“By next month, I would be visiting as many divisions as possible. We have only about two or three months left to prepare for the polls,” said Shamsul, a lawyer.

Hasmi, who is Parit Sulong division chief, is a low profile politician and activist who mounted a high profile election campaign dubbed ‘Gagasan Pencerahan (Enlightened Front)’. (see pix)

Fariz Musa was elected as deputy chief. He beat Zamakhsari Ibrahim for the post which was marred by the withdrawal of its highest nomination receiver SD Johari.

    Three women elected

SD Johari withdrew from the race last week on allegations that party advisor Anwar Ibrahim was interfering with the Youth wing elections.

The polls also saw the entry of three new wing vice-chiefs Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainuddin, Amirudin Shari and Tan Seng Toh.

The incumbents for the deputy chief and vice-chiefs were either ineligible to contest because they had surpassed the age limit for the post or chose not to contest.

The polls for the 20 Youth wing exco post also saw three women being elected for the post and also receiving high number of votes.

Of the three women elected Ginie Lim and Latheefa Koya received the second and third highest number of votes respectively. Zara Zahari ranked fifth.
